history

In April 2003, aod performed for the first time at the ancient theatres of Ephesus and Aspendus as part of a two-week cruise with Swan Hellenic.

Bacchae at Ephesus (Tamsin Shasha returning to the role of Dionysus) featured live music and used the whole auditorium, with the chorus entering through the audience and ending with a movement section especially devised by Marcello Magni, while Aspendus (Marianna Maniatakis as Electra; Mark Katz as Orestes) was the perfect setting for the ritual in Aeschylus’ Choephoroi. At sea, on Swan’s new ship Minerva II, we performed Trojan Women and Medea.

In the Autumn of 2003 (25th October to 8th November) we returned to the mediterranean on a cruise which began in Heraklion, Crete, before visiting Greece, the ancient site of Butrint in Albania, Croatia and Italy.

2004 brought 4 more International Swan cruises including performances in Troy, Ephesus once again and Greece.
